Since 1934, the 1.7 km Sumner Tunnel has carried traffic below the Boston Harbour, connecting Logan International Airport to Boston.  Deterioration of the infrastructure was identified by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation, initiating restoration and improvement works.

Delve Stacey Agnew, as the project fire and ventilation engineers, generated an improved design that not only enhanced the performance of the smoke control, but also eliminated the need to replace most of the ceiling exhaust duct.  By taking a whole-of-project approach, a solution that was both safer and more cost/time effective was found.
