Dust control systems in labs across Queensland were inspected by Stacey Agnew in 2023 to review their installation and effectiveness. With the risk of exposure to silica dust resulting in silicosis, adequate control of dust was critical to the staff safety. We identified that several installations were underperforming due to incomplete or incorrect installation. On occasion we were able to immediately improve performance during the visit.
Following the conclusion of the inital site visits, a summary of the recommended actions to improve system performance was provided. Many of these recommendations were actioned and we were invited back to review the updated systems in 2025. Our return to the sites enabled us to quantify the improvement in effectiveness and ensure the new systems had been installed correctly.
